BACK MS In Architectural Technologies FALL 2024Links:

CONCEPT

AltaSea is a public-private ocean institute based at the Port of Los Angeles, focused on marine science, climate solutions, and sustainable innovation. The organization required a new robotics research facility that could support oceanic drone testing, data analysis, and public engagement. The architectural brief included laboratories, flexible office and fabrication spaces, and a public interface that could reflect AltaSea’s mission-driven ethos and industrial waterfront context.

This proposal grounds itself in real operational needs: Robustness, adaptability, and visibility, while leveraging speculative design methods to produce a novel architectural language. The form obscures itself from inmediate understanding by speculating on a plausible drape: A new, strange material that covers the building and acts as a double-skin facade.

    ANTEDILUVIAN CITADEL

This Project explores how to code a building into existence. Instead of directly modeling the design, We developed a layered system: Narrative-driven procedurally generating volume, resolving circulation, facade, fenestration, and structure through successive computational steps, making the process infinitely replicable given any context.

      FLOODSTHETICS CONCEPT VIDEO

      FLOODSTHETICS

Floodstetics was produced as an aesthetic precedent to inform the final look of the building. The storyboards, script and video prompting was automated using Python API ensembles to quickly generate CogVideo samples.

        ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AS AESTHETIC MEDIATOR

Throughout, atmospheric and tectonic cues are fed back into the loop via texture-generation models. Further experimentation used SDXL combined with various LLMs (chiefly ChatGPT 4o) to art-direct the evolving project; producing speculative renderings that informed materiality, lighting conditions, and spatial mood.
